Simplyblock at ContainerDays Hamburg 2026

September 2–4, 2026

Simplyblock is a Start-Up sponsor of ContainerDays Hamburg 2026, three days of Kubernetes, platform engineering, and cloud-native infrastructure in a listed warehouse on the Hamburg waterfront.

When: September 2 to 4, 2026 Where: Schuppen 52, Hamburg, Germany Booth: E22

Compute moves. Does your data?

Kubernetes solved compute mobility years ago. Pods reschedule, nodes drain, clusters scale, and KubeVirt now live migrates whole virtual machines: CPU registers, virtual memory, all of it. Storage never caught up. Most platform teams still run their most important workloads on a layer that quietly assumes nothing ever moves.

That gap is what our lightning talk is about.

VM: When Compute Moves but Data Stays

Speaker: Chris Engelbert, Head of Kubernetes at simplyblock When: Wednesday, September 2, 10:10 to 10:20 Where: Room 4, Security and Mixed Track

Live migrating a VM in Kubernetes is the easy part. KubeVirt moves the CPU state and the virtual memory across to the target node and the workload keeps running. But compute placement is only half the story.

In a distributed environment, data locality decides whether performance stays predictable after the move. Even with distributed storage, you want data co-located with the compute that reads it. That means the VM’s data has to live migrate along with the VM itself.

Chris gives the short answer to a question most teams meet the hard way: when your workload moves, how do you move your data with it?

What we’re showcasing

At booth E22, the simplyblock team will be demonstrating NVMe-first block storage that behaves the way the rest of your platform already does.

  • NVMe/TCP without the fabric tax. NVMe-class IOPS and microsecond latency over standard TCP networking, on commodity x86 servers, with a full CSI driver.
  • VMware® exit with Kubernetes and Red Hat® OpenShift®. How platform teams replace vSAN with software-defined storage as part of a migration off vSphere, instead of carrying the old storage layer forward.
  • Hyperconverged storage for virtual machines on Kubernetes. Run KubeVirt and OpenShift Virtualization workloads with storage and compute on the same nodes, without giving up performance or tenant isolation.
  • Multi-tenant QoS. Per-volume IOPS and throughput limits, so internal teams share one platform without a single noisy workload setting the pace for everyone.
  • Postgres and other stateful workloads. What changes for databases on Kubernetes once storage stops being the bottleneck.

Who you’ll meet

Rob Pankow, CEO and co-founder, and Chris Engelbert, Head of Kubernetes, are at booth E22 for all three days.

Why simplyblock

Kubernetes is to cloud-native computing what simplyblock is to cloud-native storage. It runs entirely in software on your own servers, whether on-prem, in colocation, or in a private cloud, so you keep the economics of software-defined storage and the control that comes with owning your infrastructure.

For teams in Europe planning a move off VMware, that combination counts twice: once for performance, and once for where the data physically sits.
